Grade 1 and K/1 Math Inquiry- Board Games
Inquiry objective: Students are empowered through choice to direct their own learning in relevant project work. Teachers wanted to use the four defining attributes of personalized learning: voice, co-creation, social construction, and self-discovery for students to show-case their developing number sense. Teachers used Number Talks to teach an array of math strategies to develop common-language, number sense, and foundational skills between the two classes. 1. The class brainstormed and created the Math Game criteria. 2. Partners discussed a theme, rules, and math strategies involved in their game. 3. Students show-cased their games to the buddy classes and at the February 18, 2020, SD 23 West Side Learning Forum. Students invited participants to show their math strategies as they played games students had designed and created. |
